My Motivational Marbles

I’m still trying to lose weight, but I haven’t done so well so far. So I’ve decided to set some goals and really get to it.

I found this idea about a year ago on Pinterest. You might have seen it, its called Motivational Marbles. I loved the idea from the very beginning. The idea is to weigh to get your starting weight and then set your goal. You can set your ultimate goal or you can set smaller goals. I’ve decided to set smaller goals and then as they are met set the next one. This seems better to me. The ultimate goal will take some serious time and I need motivation and success on a quicker scale, so setting smaller goals seemed better for me.

So my first goal is 50 lbs. (I’ve even thought about 25 lbs at a time).

Now I needed to set up my Motivational Marbles, so I went to Walmart to see what I could find. I found the jars and the marbles together on the same shelf. Here are some pictures of mine. Note: in this picture I had put 100 marbles in because I was going to do the ultimate goal, but decided to do the smaller goals. Ok, I changed my mind. That is allowed you know.

I decided to go with green to match my bathroom. I’ve lost 5 lbs, so there are 5 marbles in the “faith” jar already.

On Pinterest the jars are plain and they had put “pounds to lose” and “pounds lost” on the jars with bling stickers. When I found these jars with “love” and “faith” on them I thought they were perfect. There was also one with “hope” on it that I got for my daughter. She made her a set also.

My jars are “love” for pounds to lose and “faith” for pounds lost. My saying right now is “I love myself because I am a daughter of the King, and I have faith through my Father that I WILL lose this weight”. I know corny. But again I need motivation and saying this to myself is motivating to me.

I’m exercising on a ski machine thing and working out with my Wii. It’s just tooooo hot here to get out much right now. I will begin my training for walking a 5K again when the weather cools a little. In fact my homeschool co-op group will be hosting a 5K in November. I’ll post the exact date when we have it set up. I’d love to have some of my blog friends come and walk it with me, that would be awesome!

I’m excited about my Motivational Marbles and I think this will really help me stay on track. After I’ve lost the first 50 lbs, I’ll start over and do another 50. Overall I’ve got about 125 lbs to lose. so prayers would be appreciated.

Me First!!

As Christians we often find ourselves neglecting ourselves and putting others first. Well we are suppose to put others first. But I think there are times when we need to take care of ourselves. As many of you know, I am trying to lose a lot of weight, more than 100 pounds. So I’ve decided that I’ve got to do some things for myself. One of those things is to change the way I eat and snack. My biggest problem is at night. I do pretty well during the day, but at night I want to snack…and snack…and snack. So I’ve got to work on that. I’m also trying to eat better. Better food, better snacks and even better drinks. I have never liked drinking a lot water, but I’m trying very hard to drink water. I’m starting with two glasses and going to work up to 8 glasses. But to get back to my snacking. I want to eat better snacks. I was reading a fellow blogger and she was talking about putting aside snacks for herself. She decided to make baskets with her snacks in it. Here’s some pictures:

She has one basket for the cupboard and one for the fridge. I’m going to do these baskets for myself and really work on my snacking at night. With my 5K training and working on my eating, I’m hopeful that my weight loss will continue.

10 for 10

I’ve got some exciting things to share today! I’ve been reading a blog for a while now and I enjoy her writing very much, but I do have a problem sharing her blog because she uses some language I don’t approve of in her writing. But many times she has some good insights and projects that I have found encouraging. Today I’d like to share one of those projects.

Many of us decided on some New Year’s resolutions. But many of us also didn’t follow through with them. Well I’ve found a goal setting idea that I think is wonderful. It’s called 10 for 10, which means 10 goals for 10 months. It’s from Chobani yogurt. What you do is make an obtainable goal for every month remaining in the year. Because March is over it would really be 9 for 9, but 10 for 10 sounds better. I guess we can set goals all the way through January. That would be 10 months. You can read about this project here.

So here are my goals:
April – Follow my “walking a 5k” training and walk my first 5k.
May – Walk my 2nd 5k and finish planting the garden.
June – Begin writing the math curriculum and begin raising rabbits.
July – Make menu plans every week and continue them.
August – Complete my “Little Women” and “Little House” curriculums for publication.
September – Complete math curriculum.
October – Decorate the house and yard for Fall.
November – Learn to make dressing and begin making homemade Christmas gifts.
December – Send Christmas cards out the first week in December.
January – take a class online.

Training, homeschooling and our first egg!

My training is going well. I started this past Thursday and I’ve walked almost everyday. One thing I have learned is that the training schedule looks easy ON PAPER, but doing it is totally different. The first day was easy, I walked for 15 min. Easy peazy!! The next day Jim and I walked a mile and a half. We decided to walk together and mark out a 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile and a mile. I had a contraption with a wheel on the end that would count the feet. The thing worked great until we got past the first 1/4 mile, then it kept locking up. I would have to stop and either go backwards or bang it on the ground. So I’m not real sure how accurate our measurements are. But we got to the 1/2 mile and put down the first stake. Then we trudged on the the 3/4 mile and I was just about done, but Jim pushed me on. At the 1 mile mark, we were about 200 feet from the bridge that goes over the river. So we put the stake down and walked on to the river. It was so beautiful! We stayed there for a couple of minutes and looked at the water and the creek that goes into the river right there. But now we had to walk back. I knew I’d never make, so we called my mom and she had my dad come and meet us at the road that we crossed just after we put down the 1/2 mile stake. I think we walked 1 1/2 miles in all. Yesterday my mom and I walked to the 1/2 mile mark and back. Like I said my training is going pretty good. Today I’m planning on doing the exercise glider for at least 15 min.

I’m not sure if I have explained about the place where we walk. We live right next to where there used to be railroad tracks. There is now a walking track, where the railroad tracks used to be. Its paved and very nice. The bridge I talked about is very high over the river and about a mile from the house. We had rode bikes down there months ago, the bridge “floor” had been rebuilt, but there was no rails. I couldn’t go across because it made me so dizzy without the rails. Now there are rails and it is so pretty. We walked on the bridge and Jim has even decided we need to put a Geocache there. So as soon as the trail is officially opened, we are going to do that. Homeschooling is going pretty good also. Abby and I signed up for a postcard swap. The rule is you can swap with five families a month. So we got with five families and exchanged addresses. We have received four of the five postcards. We got cards from West Virginia, Texas, Hawaii, and Alaska. We are still waiting on one from England. We have decided to do it again this next month and we are going to try and get a postcard from every state. I’ve even printed out a map of the US on four sheets of paper, so it is pretty big. We are going to mark each state as we get a postcard from it. I’ll make a picture of the map as soon as I get it up. I just printed it today.

Abby is doing good, but we are still struggling with multiplication facts, and long division. I know it just takes practice, but its tedious. She is still writing like crazy. Her assignment this week is to write a fairy tale. She told me she had a great idea, and was already writing away.

We were all excited yesterday, we got our first egg from the chickens! It was kind of small, but we were still really excited. In fact we were all shouting, and mom took a picture of it. I know we are easily entertained.

Training to walk a 5K.

I’ve decided that I’m going to begin training to walk a 5K. I’m doing this to help me reach my weight loss goals. I know a 5K seems extreme, but I think by going by a training schedule I can do this. And of course, I’m only walking NOT running it. I don’t think I’ll be running anywhere, unless of course something really big is after me. But I can walk. I’m going to use Hal Hidgon’s 5K for Walkers. The training will take 8 weeks, so I should be ready to walk a 5K by May 12th. I did start today, but I’m officially starting the training on Monday, March 18, 2013. I’ve found a 2K fun run here in Tupelo on May 11th, so I’m going to do that one. There is another one, a 5K in Columbus, that I could also do. I’ll post which one I’ll be going to. I’d love for some of my friends to walk with me! That would be so great! So if anyone is interested, let me know.

So today I did walk for 15 min. I made it fine, no passing out or anything. Abby rode her bike while I walked. I don’t feel like I’ll have trouble until I have to walk for 30 min. Let me know if anyone is going to do this also.

Diet update

Well I just wanted to update you on a couple of things. I got my two bottle of pills today and on the slip of paper that came with them it said I had only a 14 day trial. I called the number and argued with the people to no avail. I asked how much the stuff was a month and they are around $80 a month each. I felt like screaming into the phone, “Are you crazy!”, but i restrained myself. So I cancelled my order. I’m keeping 14 days worth of the pills, but I have to send the rest back.
The other thing is I found Raspberry Ketone Extract at Walmart for $10. I’m wondering if its the same thing. I’m going to take the bottles I got today and compare. I’ll let you know.
So I just wanted to warn anyone that was thinking of getting the pills and trying it. I’ll still let you know how it goes with the 14 days worth of pills I’m keeping.

Dieting. UGH!

I’ve decided that I have to go on a diet.  I’ve dieted so many times before I just can’t seem to even begin to believe its worth it.  BUT, you knew there was going to be a but, I’ve got to lose weight.  I can’t walk any distance without being out of breath.  I know some of it is the sad condition of my lungs and the asthma, but I also know that if I lose weight it will get better.  I read this article. So I have decided to try the Raspberry Ketone Extract.  Here is a link to the Dr. Oz show that talks about Raspberry Ketone Extract.  I’m also going to try a colon cleanze that is supposed to make the weight loss results even better.  So I’ll try and let you know how it goes.  I’m not sure how long it will take to get them in, but as soon as I do I’ll start letting you know.  Wish me luck!!
